The Lament of Peace

The Lament of Peace

A Poem by Baby Ricochet
"

,

"

Born with a warrior's spirit

Filled with a warrior's lust

Living in silent complacency

My weapon turning rust

Reminiscing on mecca violence

The scent of victory

unleash the vicious dogs of war

Run wild through history

Days of adventure come to pass

We lived life at it's peak

Cheated death a hundred fold

Nevermore for the weak

Peace dawns dim in a fading light

Filled with decaying dreams

Sifting through burning memories

for something to redeem

Monotony crushes in on me

Life crawls in slow motion

Living with the uncertainty

of taking Satan's bargain

Snakes hunt rats in rabbit holes

Eagles prey upon the snake

The circle of death continues

Our fate is what we make

Thank you voice
And to think we you'll never be this awesome again. It's all downhill as we age isn't it. Just think you once were actually paid to carry a gun and kick a*s. It's hard to top that.

In some ways nothing comes close in other ways I'm grateful its over
Cry havoc, and let slip...erm...Baby Ricochet?

I can feel the testosterone running high in this one, Baby...
This "land of the free, home of the brave" needs more men like you, if we are to keep those freedoms we deign to be so precious.
Loved this piece!

This is the stuff, Baby. This is the stuff. Just like your '..Icehouse' piece, this one spoke to me. The first stanza lets me see a man who is almost shaking with wanting to do something about all this crap in our country. Love this. Angi~

HERE - this is the BR that I want to read more of, a true spirit that exposes his emotions without humour x beautiful piece.

Thank you Thomas. I appreciate it.
Wow. This is a visceral hard edged write.

Snakes hunt rats in rabbit holes
Eagles prey upon the snake
The circle of death continues
Our fate is what we make

War is complex and there is so much residual damage....the right thing can haunt just as much as the "Wrong" thing.

It sure as s**t can
That is very deep. The warrior is unsettled in peace times, will his role in battle send him to hell? But the last stanza is his comfort, he played his role in protecting from predators. Great read, and as always great rhyme and flow.

Thank you Keith.
I think you're reflecting that loss of purpose in the West that sees us declining into a bunch of 'Nanny States,' BR. We've been overcome by Political Correctness, follow the same line of 'appeasement' that Britain followed prior to the Second War, and the result will be the same. Sooner or later we will have to assert ourselves again, or lie down and slide into that pit of history that is reserved for decadent empires.
There are only two types of peoples on this planet, winners and losers. Perceived weakness never won a battle.

Brilliant insight Mr Paget and you are quite correct. Thank you for your review.
I think the last stanza didn't quite fit with the rest of the poem. I like the first two lines best.

It's kind of a philosophical ending. Thank you for your input Marie. I appreciate it as always
