maybe it is best to go with your gut for now and do what is right for your well being and peace of mind. i support you regardless of what you write, but i think that you know this. you have many genres of writing and many different styles at your disposal, being a many faceted writer with a gift for the written word...therefore, i see much possibility in your future for different and possibly new and exciting venues. this is a great piece in itself, but i think you were going for a statement more than a clever poem. still, well done, my friend.
I read once about a ceremony in Japan for returned soldiers- where they were honored publically by the community and then underwent a ceremony reinitiating them as regular civilians... in order to let them move on with life. I think we here miss the boat on so many important milestones and acknowledgments like that.
Well it was a pleasure knowing you and your work for as long as I have. Though it was a really short time.

Nice work. My grandfather was in WW 1 and my father was in WW2 both men refused to talk about the horrors ect that they saw or took part in. My grandfather, god bless him, went nutty with the sights he saw. Now its called post traumatic stress syndrome. Respect to you sir.
Nice work.
You do what you believe is right for you. Nobody can take away what is in your heart, and therefore, anything you write can be appreciated when written with conviction.
Its your choice to write what you want, you can force anything you don't want to write. However, for whatever it's worth, I liked the poems you wrote about your service, but if you want to move on from that I', certainly not going to be the one who gets in your way.
I read that first line and about got ready to move on down to Tampa and kick that Veteran a*s of yours, Baby Ricochet.
But no, you're fine. i understand and respect this decision of yours. being a civilian, i only know what i read, and that stuff's pretty horrifying. You don't need to relive those things just for the sake of getting ink on paper. You deserve the peace of moving on. Happy Memorial Day, Mr. Ricochet. Semper Fi.
I write just for the hell of it
A way to spend some time
Blurting out in cyber space
Whatever's on my mind
Maybe funny maybe tragic
Emotional and raw
Politi.. more..
