DOPING

DOPING

A Poem by Baby Ricochet

      SO Lance Armstrong cheated
         And you're so surprised
       He's a professional athlete
        Of course he f*****g lied

     Drugs are shooting everywhere
         Careers are on the line
It's the world we live in
      What are you, f*****g blind?

With dump trucks full of money
      And warehouses full of fame
     The integrity of sportsmanship
Gets sucked right down the drain

Fantastic plays that thrill the fans
     Made by freak s**t humanoids
        Do they share our DNA
     Or are they mutant androids

   Muscles bulging veins exploding
         Incredible freakazoids
    Who's you're favorite Athlete
You know he's full of roids

If you want a role model
       You might look elsewhere
Pro sports is not the place
For white knights who play fair

      Maybe you think me cynical
         And writing out of line
I say drugs belong in sports
           I say drugs are fine

    Incredible Physical specimens
        Worshiped by their fans
You want to see outrageous plays
Drugs are sure to have a hand

We push our athletes to the wall
   We want perfect and courageous
     Bigger than life performances
    Standards that are outrageous

       We want to live vicariously
        Through their victories
      Because civilians are pathetic
    And have succumb to monotony

Athletes can't live up to standards
          Set by our obsessions
    So they use performance drugs
and fans never learn the lesson

Sports fans have a choice to make
For some that's not so easy
     Do we want outrageous plays
       Or do we want integrity

A few words about performance enhancing drugs. In the late 80's when congress was holding hearings on steroids in baseball most of the general public was oblivious to the existence of performance enhancing drugs. When the steroid control act was past in 1989 by president bush a small but highly effective anti steroid campaign was launched that melded with the much larger "Just Say No" anti drug campaign that put it's emphasis on crack cocaine which was branded the scourge of America at the time. The result was Steroids and the people who used them got lumped in with crack heads in the public collective mind and it has by and large stuck to this day. The reality is there are few, if any studies of the long term effects of steroids because the FDA has no interest in such studies and privately funded groups would be hard pressed to get funding owing to steroids being so successfully vilified in popular culture. Much of the "common knowledge" about steroids is based on misinformation and hysteria circulating in a public forum that's prone to hysterics and rumor so when it comes to Steroids what you think you know ain't necessarily so.
Like virtually every other pharmaceutical drug on the market newer, cleaner steroids come out as older ones fade away. Newer drugs like Decca durabolin, Nandrolone and Trenbolone have replaced older, more problematic drugs such as Dainabol for better theraputic effect with minimal side effects.
Steroids are drugs and like all drugs some people do well on them, some people do poorly and some people will abuse them. Anabolic Steroids are legal for private use in much of the world and most are legal in the US with a doctors prescription. If you read this far thank you and think about my little steroid essay when you're at the bar on your forth drink and sucking on a cigarette. Thank you

Arnold weighed in at 240 contest weight. That's contest day weight after carb depleting and taking diuretics for that super ripped look. Jay Cutler and Ronnie Coleman are the two bohemeths of body building today and they weigh in on contest day at over 300. Better understanding of training, how the body works and better drugs. No one's getting that freaky with out them.

I raced horses for many years and i can tell you drugs are the way of all sports. They use them or they get beat,. Anytime a person or animal competes in a great level drugs are the thing of choice

That's for sure. Thanks for the review Tate
I don't see why people would get upset to hear their favorite athlete was taking steroids... like do people want them to do well or not?

Personally I can't stand the whole sports worship thing or the hype that goes with it, and I'm not a fan of drugs of any sort but I do get your point. They are going to do it anyway so why stress about it, as you say it's just a part of the world we live in. Another well written poem Ricochet.

Welcome
I've never so much as glanced longer than a second at ANY given sports show (despite the constant irritation of being bugged to get off my a*s and quit being depressed and just join sports; or perhaps encouragement to watch sports with other individuals to create bonds with them of which I'd rather have nothing to do with) without burying my face into a novel, but I'll say you've done a great summarization of this topic. Well done.
