Expendable

Expendable

A Poem by Baby Ricochet

I know you people mean well
You want to say the right thing
        But some of your "Opinions"
        You shouldn't say anything

You have an attitude about us
       That's tainted and regrettable
       Just because we volunteered
       Our lives became expendable

       You hide behind hero worship
          Wave your flag and shout
But catch you in a moment
         Then the truth comes out

We know what you really think
            Savages and murderers
            It wasn't that long ago
         You called us baby burners

I got no lessons left to learn
      My purpose has been done
So you can stop f*****g telling me
        My journey's just begun

You don't know what your saying
     So shut your f*****g mouth
        Everyone has an "opinion"
        This is what mine's about

I came from a military family, and I had relatives that went through hell on earth when they got back from Vietnam, because of what the American people did to them . . . because of what their own civilian friends did to them. It was truly sick. The sickest part is that most of the soldiers that took this abuse were drafted; they were given no choice

Being a military wife I know the military all to well. I couldn't agree with your poem more. Often times people who have no ties to the military talk as if they know what they are actually talking about. They never really give thanks or show much gratitude to those who have and are serving. They say what ever war we are in is pointless and lives are wasted for nothing but the fail to realize that lives were sacrificed for freedom. Very strong poem I like it very much.

While I disagree with the concept that a bunch of people think you or anyone in the arm forces is expendable, I get where you're coming from in the sense that only those who have been to war can comment on war.

Pretty cold ... and pretty brutal. Understood though.
You said what used to go around in my mind... quite often.
Expendable?
Yeah, I've felt that. Actually, several times I heard it loud and clear. So clear, the hair on the back of my neck stood up and I took one more step closer to God... just in case.
There is nothing expendable about you or your mind though, BR.

Actually you didn't volunteer.... you applied... you went to an interview... you were employed ... you were paid..... your employers are at fault.... you had a s**t time...Sorry mate but war f***s with your head... either bury it in the sand or live with it and write about it....as it was .. as it is... and as it will be.... which is what you are voluntarily doing... I am impressed with your poetry because you see it as is/was .... that is heroic.

This is an unfortunate view, but I respect your opinion and thank you for expressing it. I, personally, don't know anyone who believes you are expendable.
