Medivac poem

Medivac poem

A Poem by Baby Ricochet

Rotors thump overhead
Load broken bloody bodies aboard
He died on the flight back
We were devastated
we all want to go home
where the streets aren't rivers of sewage
Where a man on a  cell phone isn't a sniper's spotter
Where a TV remote contol isn't a remote detonator
Where an empty street doesn't mean an ambush
Where your feet don't spit open with fatigue
Where you don't see your friends mangled by IED'S
and hear they died on the deck of a medivac chopper
We all want to go home
But home won't be there
Not the home we want to go back to
We're not spritely cocky boys anymore.
We're bitter used up old men

yes it does
Outstanding! Leaving aside the obvious raw emotion which hads already been commented on let me just praise it as a poem. The repetition of "where" strikes hard. It is like a series of punches or, perhaps like the whoop, whoop of a rotor. The "But" then strikes a jarring note setting up the final lines. Well written, well structured and damn well done.

Thanks. I don't write these types of poems anymore. They just wear me down.

I can understand why.
Those closing lines really hit hard

I gave a lot of thought to what I might say in a review of this piece, and everything I came up with was inconsequential compared to the work.

Very compelling write. Thank you for posting this.

what has the world come to...? A rotting hellhole. nice poem, I agree that the world is a dangerous place. No where is the place for blissful innocence anymore.

This grabs me down deep where angst and death reside. Much food for thought, none of it tasteful. Genius write.

One of your most touching works. I am very moved by what they go through on the killing fields and I respect you deeply for that! You jest a lot but here I see that poignant wonderful writer clearly through! You rock baby! 100/100

This truly is one of your best, BR... in my opinion. When you get serious, there is a whole different BR that comes out. Very well done, sir.
