Confessions of A Bully

With all the bully talk lately it's time to hear from the other side.

I was the class bully when I was in school

Showed any weakness and you were my tool

Recesses and locker rooms I was the king

    Everyone knew not to say anything

 

  Always in trouble for starting up fights

     Easy enough for someone to incite

I knew all about the strong and the weak

I wrote the book on the law of my street

 

I teased and intimidated whoever I pleased

  I could make anyone get on their knees

I was the worst kind of childhood regression

  Being fueled by unchanneled aggression

 

I beat up the years and started high shcool

  and I had perfected the art of the cruel

 No one dared give me any kind of s**t

    Everyone knew to zip up their lip

 

Strutting down hall ways I owned them all

  I had an entourage at my beckon call

I didn't have to fight anyone anymore

  That's what all my lackey's were for

 

Then my world got turned upside down

 When my first girlfriend came around

   I was a pariah and a nasty kill joy

  But some girls can't resist a bad boy

 

  We made out just about all the time

I felt like a prince with her hand in mine

  she left me for a big highschool jock

I thought my universe was falling apart

 

  When the smoke cleared and I was alone

The pain in my heart had melted the stone

    I could see fear in kids terrified eyes

    I knew respect through fear was a lie

 

   I changed my ways and bullied no more

Graduated high school and joined the corps

  Left my home town and never went back

It's a s**t little place full of ugly flashbacks

 

High school reunion there's no flipping way

       What would I do what could I say

  Hi here comes your worst childhood fears

The one that kept you in therapy for years

 

    I deeply regret everything that I did

    Every last fight every scared little kid

   So here's a bit of reformed bully advice

  If you love to bully you're wasting your life

 

 

Author's Note

Okay I wasn't quite atillia the flipping hun in school but was in constant trouble for fighting and yes I was a school yard terror and here's the problem with kids that bully.It works and in a perverse way it is empowering. Some kids are terrified while others think you're the coolest kid they've ever met and while most girls think you're an asshole some of them find you irresistable. Bullying's a vicious circle that's never going to end, kind of like war. Don't excpect that to stop anytime soon either.

This is but a simple line yet striking. There are certain things in life that needs more attention than just doing crazy things like bullying. I just don't get it why some people wasting their so little time making fun of other people. Its sad...

I love this. As the eldest of three children, I did my fair bit of bossing around when I was little. School was a shock to the system. I was usually the bullied rather than the bully.
But we, the bullied, are not totally blameless. Awful as it sounds, I'm glad I've been pushed around so much, because it toughened me up a lot. I never ever bully anyone else, and I'm still polite and kind (if I have to be!!), but I know how to stand up for myself now and I know when and how to stand my ground.

In a sense, bullies are a means to an end; teaching the rest of us how to cope with being alive.
Just one twisted view on it, is all...

I started school early, and everyone was at least a year older than me. So I was always the smallest guy. Well, me and Mike Moran. He was naturally tiny. Then, in 9th grade I showed up and was bigger than most of them. It was a weird feeling. They were all scared of me now. I can't say I didn't take a little advantage of it... Good write.

I was always the big kid. By the 6th grade I was pushing 6 feet at 180 lbs. Between that and a natural aggressive streak my role it was almost preordained. Thank you for reviewing confessions Steven

I think bullying is wrong and should be stopped where possible. But perhaps what you were helped make you what you are today. The past should be used as a learning tool, not as something to blame for today's problems.

Painfully shy, always reading, always writing, sitting alone...it's no wonder I was picked on in school...but you know what? The girl who tormented me for years is dead now; died of a drug overdose *laugh* (Oh I can't believe I just laughed at that)

Seriously, though...this can't have been easy for you to confess, but the message behind the confession is an important one, so I'm glad you did. And, FYI, a lot of those who were bullied manage to find their own power in the end. I am shining proof of that.

I have to say, I think it's a good thing you managed to lose that bullying spirit before you embarked on Parris Island *laugh* Don't suppose those Master Sergeants would have found you nearly as irresistible as your first girlfriend.

I did fairly well in basic in part because of my aggressive streak that spawned my bullying behavior. For the first time in my life I had something to channel that energy into and saw positive results every time I qualified an obstacle. If you failed to qualify an obstacle you got dropped back to the next platoon of recruits coming up so that meant 4 more weeks of Parris island and I sure as s**t didn't want that. First week I was there was one of the most terrifying weeks of my life. THEY DO NOT F**K AROUND!

A great poem. I never read anything like this before. Very original. Yes isn't it obvious that all bullies are insecure lol. I never let bullies punk me. Even though i was small i look em in the eye and saw the big insecure b***h that they are and they backed down :P

But anyway back to the poem. What a great incite of the mind of a bully. Only a woman can bring a bully down lol her for going out with someone bigger and tougher than u are. Its the way of the world. Great piece.

I hope u were not too hard on the nerds :P reminds me of my tattoo artist. He was bullied by the jocks and years later he became a successful tattoo artist surrounded by hot ladies, the jocks apologize to him lol. Nyc is fucked. I have too many friends who are skrewed, havent showered yet, phones dead, car destroyed. Scary stuff.

I love NYC. It pains me to see it damaged. It's like seeing a friend get his a*s kicked. The Highschool I went to had a heavy rural south, migrant worker, dirt poor southern cracker population. Very different than schools in the north or suberbia.
