The guy that was writing trash about US armed forces was an Amrerican. I'll let some of that crap slide from Europeans but Americans? Talk shit about the war and it's architects all you want. But when you start in on the men and women who did the fighting, bleeding, crying and dying cause we were ordered to? No. Bad, very, very bad.
It's that stupid civilian line of " soldiers should ask why" What in the hell kind of army debates orders? You figure that shit out the first two minutes you're 18 year old ass is in boot camp. The other guy who's blocking me I've no clue who he is. I don't recall ever reading his work but he's obviously read mine. I stumbled on him by accident during a conversation between That_girl and Philgod. His posts were kind of snarky so I clicked on him and what do you know, I'm blocked. So I chimed into the conversation and he promptly deleted all his posts. Marines can make a retreat happen even in cyber space. HOORAH!

Ha! Don't worry about people blocking you--I've been blocked by more people than I care to mention on here, and I don't have a clue as to why--nor do I really care. My view is anyone that blocks me must have a problem with my work (or me personally) and as such, it's their problem--let them deal with it. If I've slandered anyone or offended anyone on here, unintentionally, then I'm sorry. I wish someone would tell me why they block me before they do it--that would be nice.
For the most part, when people block me on here, I just forget about them. They obviously have issues.
Except for one. Tate Morgan blocked me--I have no idea why. I really admire his work, and before he blocked me I really enjoyed reading it: he's an EXCELLENT writer; but I must've said or did something wrong (wish I knew what it was) and he just blocked me . . . ah well. C'est la vie.
This guy who was bad mouthing you--he comes from the free, individualistic world of the calm, rationally minded civilian . . . the kind of human being who is not required to kill in order to survive. It's not so much that these civvies hate soldiers as it is that they--very literally--cannot comprehend the world soldiers live in. All they really know is the sheltered peace you guys fight and die to preserve every day, whilst they live on, blissfully ignorant. They can't comprehend hardly anything outside their civvie lives, for that matter; and if they do, they prefer not to dwell on it. To the true liberal civilian, soldiers will always be an enigma . . . they just don't get it.
That doesn't justify this man's slander by any measure, though. Here's a thought: Put him in the desert and surround him with insurgents, men who would gladly tear him to pieces just for being American and over there, and then give him a rifle and say: Survive.
He'll sing a different tune after that, guaranteed.

I work as an artist, selling paintings and I attempt to write. I am not overly sensitive. I am harsh sometimes. I have often been called "cold-hearted", most frequently by my own mother. That's something that bugs me, so I just had to make my statement about the writers as artists are sensitive remark. That's bullshit. People are people, they're all different.
I have a temper that flashes, but I'd rather attribute that to my red hair than being an artistic person.
I try not to be a jerk and when I offer criticism, I also always try to point out the good things too. I think that the only people who should be blocked are creepy people hitting on you, basically.

Of course this isn't every older writer; I've only ran into two. I believe that reviews shouldn't be sugarcoated, but they should be polite. Someone called my writing boring, which, you know, can be expected from some people. I can't please everyone and I won't try, but when this person came back later and said my writing sucks to read, that's where I felt they went too far. And, if you go to said person's page, their biography does say that they are biased against younger, inexperienced writers. That person isn't on here to help us youths grow. They're on here to put down others so that they can feel good about themselves. That, in my opinion, is the kind of person who should be blocked. Yeah, creepers should be too, but so should stereotypical a******s. They aren't worth anyone's time.

I like people to actually critique my work, it doesn't mean I will necessarily agree with their points, but it makes me look at my work and think about it and maybe take their advice. That's why I joined this site. When I review, I always try to review the way that I hope people will review my own work. Apparently that has the potential to completely offend some writers on here, but I keep trying. A sugar-coated review is just as useful as a flat out insult.

I like this piece. Coming from a military family, each member who served is of reasonable intelligence and they know what they were fighting for (regardless if they agreed with it or not). I disagree with the civilian leader in charge of the military, not the men who fight for him. If you served in a war and the leader felt it was justified, then you have done what you signed up for and you deserve the praise for what you did. I have my reservations about Vietnam and Iraq II, but the men who served in every conflict deserve respect for what they did. I wonder and question the motives of the leaders, not the men and women who serve.
Well, here you have touched on things that I want to get on a soap box about, but there wouldn't be enough space in the review box to contain my ramblings. Most have already said the important points before me here.
I'll just say that opinions are opinions, but why some people insist on saying theirs in cruel or spiteful ways and then wondering why we respond is beyond me. Some people think that they are entitled to their opinion, however they choose to express it, but no one is supposed to respond to or question them. As for blocking and drama on WC well, let's just say that when they don't have to face you in person people can get really full of themselves. It is a writing site, there is freedom to read or not read, if people go around spewing hatred and express themselves in aggressive, spiteful ways why do they wonder when others stand up to them? I personally, love your writing and appreciate your honesty, humor, style, and the insights you give. You are real, and are entitled to express your reality...if someone doesn't like it, they are not forced to read it. If more people would just not review or comment on things trying to stir up $%^&* we could learn a lot more about writing and enjoy the journey and other writers. I suppose that is, in a small way, why we end up fighting all these wars...it is sad that harmony, mutual learning and expression, and a bit of maturity in relating to one another seems to be so difficult even when far removed from the battlefield.
I lived through the Vietnam era and know many vets from it...that was a tragedy and a real view into how screwed up things can get. That was a time of the DRAFT and the majority of our young men didn't want to go. A "volunteer" army may well be saving the children, grandchildren, or the very people who speak about those who serve. The dynamics and politics behind war are often despicable, but those who fight can't be judged or understood by anyone who has not been in a battle situation...I suppose that goes for all of us...how can we judge each other at all. In this time where bullying is so pervasive (suppose it always has been), and yet we are all tied up and seem to be rendered unable to "settle" the situation in a way a bully would understand - meaning there are so many laws, and "hand ties" to just giving them a bit of what they give out - no wonder some people think they can say anything they want to anyone they want - in the Old West, and even now sometimes, it's best to not stir things up thinking there will be no consequence...if only a well worded "Why the Hell would you say something like that!"
Sorry...I am just getting started, but will spare the further for I fear I will just go on and on. Thank you for writing this. As you can see, you have stirred up a lot in me and I wish we could all be sitting by a warm fire, with a bottle of wine, and getting into an spirited conversation about it!

This piece is up to 880 views, spawned a lot of conversations and got to number one on popular reading list for 2 days so it struck a lot of nerves. But my favorite part was invs admitting to reading most of my work in his review. I thought that guy hated my stuff. That was my biggest victory. IMO the vietnam college draft defrement was unfair. That's where the myth started that the military takes advantage of "naive dumb kids" from small towns. Talk to a Cobra gun ship pilot and see how dumb he/she is. It's not in everyone to join the military, particularly the Marine Corps. The thing a lot of these folks don't realize is they wouldn't have made it through a week of boot camp let alone multible deployments to Afganistan and Iraq that could last up to 18 months and actually want to go back. Part of me wants to go back.

Until we got the 18 year old vote, these guys were drafted and couldn't even vote! It was a turbulent time and changed a lot of people. When you are in the draft lottery, you never know when your number will come up...it was terrible. I've been gone for a while and didn't see this till today. Glad I did. If my review was longest...good grief...I'd hate to think how long it would've been if I said all that this poem brought up in me. Keep up your strong, good work. I try so hard to be tactful and honestly kind when reviewing, but I said something that got me slapped - I don't even know what - they never bothered to tell me...I even emailed and they just acted like there was no problem, then chunked me...I don't get people sometimes...you just have to realize they have a problem and forget about it.

I agree. I abhor the war and the sickos who spawned it. I don't respect soldiers any more than ordinary folks, but it's certainly wrong to spit vile insults at them, when they are putting their lives in jeapordy . At any rate, the poem you wrote here definitely gets the message across. I felt it could be a little shorter, and, to be honest, this is good subject matter if you target it specifically at those who disrespect the armed forces, rather than include the online writers dispute you've had here. Thanx for sharing this, I enjoyed reading it.

i read your writing quite often. some of it pisses me off, but i don't expect to agree with everyone on here, so that's no big thing. you certainly have a point of view in your writing and i enjoy that even when i don't agree with it.
regarding blocking, i've been blocked a few times by people who disagree with my comments about bad writing (i'm opposed to it). and i've been blocked by a few who took offense to my attitude, whatever they perceived it to be. i've also blocked a few folks, mainly because they seemed more interested in being confrontational than being conversational. i respect people who state their opinions. i have no respect for people who just say things to get a rise out of others. but that's simply my opinion and since they give me an option to banish them from my wc world, i take advantage of it. less stress.
