I was trying to teach other guys to have a sense of humor

 

If I had known that was you I wouldn't have posted what I did

And I gotta admit my little one you made me feel stupid

 

I thought oh that's just great I'm talking smut to an 11 year old girl

Who writes cute poems about ponies that make her head go swirl

 

One of the things I don't like about cyber space

Who am I really talking to who is in this place

 

It's a risky wacky shootum from the hip kind of world

where you could end up talking trash to an 11 year old girl

 

So what am I supposed to do to keep from comitting such a folly

Change my screen name from Ricochet to Mature audience only

 

No No sweetheart don't get me wrong I'm not mad at you

I was in the Corps most of my life talking trash is what I do

 

Just be careful on mixed sites where grown men are posting

Don't stumble into conversations that could get your eyeballs roasting

 

It would be nice for you I think to protect your childhood years

Soon they'll be gone forever with regrets that suddenly appear

 

So 5 years down the road you'll be sweet sixteen and I'd love to have a chat

Author's Note

I wrote this in about ten minutes and did very little editing. It's about one of my off color replies during a cyber conversation to a poster that turned out to be an 11 year old girl. I thought "Oh that's just great, I'm a dirty old man now and I'm only 32 years old" I thought she was a guy cause everyone else in the conversation was. Man did I feel stupid.

It's because of things like this I've decided not to get into those long conversational threads anymore. This place is an open door for anyone to come into nowadays which is why I never curse here on poems or replies, by not doing so, I'm watching my back. Their identity is hidden behind an avatar and I've discovered many times even though I may never have said anything bad, I was vulnerable to a sticky situation I wasn't aware of.
