Regret

Regret

A Poem by Denise Tinker

I hurt you when you were only trying to help me.
I understand if my presence isn't where you would like to be.
Honestly, I broke your heart. Made you shed tears
Which would crush me to see.
Slander, selfishness, utter cruelty!
Forgiveness or trust, too far away to seek.
Your emotions boiled when you heard.
But I swear I never meant to burn my bridge with just one word.
Give me space, to find time just to forgive myself.
Because it's not you whose holding on to the pain alone.
It's in my mind and in my heart it burns.
Forget a second chance!
To never have done it, to me would be better than wasting your time.
