celeste

A Poem by dele

i’m so glad you’re here.
you say.
as we lay on our backs on the front of
a mix-up of different
colours,cultures, pasts, and presents,
held together by stitches of commitment,
sacrifice, affection, patience, forgiveness and
underst&ing. may be lil’ rough
round the edges..but this patchwork quilt
our hearts love built feels like
heaven. to me.
you lie on your bed as you make it. they say.
&you reap what you sow.
green fingers blind
to untold eyes, tend to the plant our newness has grown.
ur own woman frame
frames a sight
to behold, and at same time,
that same frame,
is one of reference.
see with predecessors, my love learnt lessons
by staring into their pupils.
but now as our fingers interlace
like a stubborn YKK
yours......
........mine
yours......
........mine
yours......
........mine
yours......
........mine
palms align & i realise,
its not into divine earth-tone eyes I gaze.
but up to celestial bodies instead.
our present to us is, looking ahead to our future.
my body of Celeste.
you glow when im weak and
shine when i cant
thoughts echo your speech and
mood mirrors your art.
which makes me your sun.
as i was to my father, and as
our child will be to us.
and i await the day we both become moons and
reflect .his. light.
at the same time..it aint always
easy.
opposites attract and all that..but sometimes
opposite is just..opposition.
different eye levels mean we turn circles,
until we square up.
love’s nemesis (pride) wont let either back down,
even though we’re both exposed
to an enemy who already
has our soft spots known.
but we go on.

foolishness.

like boxers, we
start off in separate corners,
beat the s**t out of each other
and finally coagulate in the middle.
when we get too tired to fight anymore.
we cling
on to one another in an embrace of desperation.
but no matter who ‘wins’ it’ll always be a draw.
i remember in one of our bouts i said;
‘i cant win with you’ and you said
that in order for someone to win,
somebody has to lose.
So here we stay, back to where we never left.
with someone I can lie with, but forever tell the truth to.
im so glad. You. are here
i say.
