Thoughts at Eighteen

Everything must make sense,

or nothing will get done.

Hold your breath

until the tears go away.

Maybe he’s not the one

you almost thought he was.

The need to be free-

get your a*s out of town.

Home is not here,

the heart is elsewhere.

You have dreams

that need acknowledgement.

What you want now

is too much to pay for.

The paths don’t cross-

mine goes north,

his goes south.

Wishful thinking

will get you nowhere

you’re still too young

to know anything.

Someday it will happen.

Just don’t hold your breath.

Today isn’t that day,

tomorrow won’t be either.
