NAKED

As I undressed,

at the end of the day,

I stripped and peeled

my soul away,

to see what I was made of

I had to go deeper than clothes.

As I prodded through

 this soul which was mine,

I expected to find

talents and new ideas,

happiness and hopes.

To my dismay,

and my horror,

I found instead

insecurities and fear

wrapped in baby blankets

to mask themselves

 from the outside.

So I set about,

to make a change,

and removed the fabric

surrounding my blemishes,

and found that I had

no new strengths

 to turn to,

for I lacked

experience and knowledge

and found that

I could not step

outside to explore,

for insecurities and fear

were still a major trait.

So I wrapped my downfalls

back in their blankets,

tucked them back

into the folds of my soul,

and dressed myself,

once again,

to repeat the same day.

I liked this a lot. Very honest and very applicable to probably nearly everyone if they're honest. It reads smoothly too.

A ten year old poem, but still the nakedness persists. Nice analogies, nice way to put the soul searching. I suspect there are more than a few people who wrap things back up. Perhaps bringing them out after a decade is the way to go. Very well done.

wow. just wow. the language in this is exquisite i love the idea of the fears and insecurities swaddled in baby blankets to mask them. and then ending by returning to the beginning leaves me wondering if it the narrator is going to just go on living as if they never made this discovery or if it will become another beginning. anyway, enough of my blathering. this was a beautiful poem. i look forward to more of your writings.
