A Riddle

A Riddle

A Poem by deer-heart
"

Who am I?

"

I speak before all,
yet oft am I mistaken.
I am a cover,
and oft a disguise.
You try to sway me;
I resolve to stand firm.
You try to shake me;
I dig in my heels.
With no prior knowledge
I shall take up a cross.
Be me right, be me wrong:

Who am I?

I'm not sure how effective this is, as it was written on the fly... What do you think it is?

I was gonna say conscience

but looking at Legion's reply there, my second guess was guilt or remorse

I liked this very much!! enjoyed flanking my brain inside out!!

Sounds like religion to me or some connection with it. I like it. Would make an interesting part of a song as well.
