Prevailing change

With age comes fading memories of life

Shadows of past acquaintances torment this night

History some regrets with confusion to why

In body, never the same we did survive

In mind we struggle to understand prevailing change

Like ghosts reliving action from past commands

Old soldiers fade to proclaimed governing actions unleashed

Values lost to promises broken from ruling powers,

Politicians with agendas disregarding the flag and oath we gave

Lost compassion for returning soles from unspoken conflicts

Never ending world bowing down to the non-conformist with power

Veterans assigned to wooden benches, cardboard boxes in lieu of compassion

Watching flags set without tradition, discarded only remembered by comrades

What of this world which we have become unrecognized for services rendered

Honor, Duty, and Respect for we who have laid down our lives for your safety

But remembered only by fields of stone.
