The Struggle for FreedomA Poem by JUSTWRITINGIt was bound by its own hopelessness, and wanted to break free, to feel hope and happiness.
Hopelessly lost and forgotten
Shrouded in clouds of fear And wrapped so tightly with self-restraints Unable to be the free bird it really wants to be, It struggles against its very nature, Wanting nothing more Than to soar the skies again And feel other emotions besides Pain, hopelessness, fear and sadness. It wants to feel the wind in its face To feel the love its family gives To be hugged by its mate, And to see each new day With the sun shining in its face. It wants to be the very animal It was created by nature to be- Soaring, powerful and free Tied only by life, as is natural. But now it fights the very thing It fears from within itself Hoping against hope to come out Of this very enveloped existence It has created for itself Bit by little bit Over the years of its existence. And now it suffers Like condemned souls in purgatory Of its own fears and hopelessness. Slowly and gradually over a long period of time, It manages and struggles with itself To break free of this self-inflicted curse Realizing that hope prevails And all is not lost. So, at long last After a decades long battle It has finally broken away from its cage And the bird is finally free Soaring in the skies like it always dreamt it would. © 2013 JUSTWRITINGAuthor's Note
