AwayA Poem by Brandon Gene Petit
I know the forces argue but I feel that I deserve a lift
Ready to escape this farce and merge into the sunset cliffs
I lend an ear unto the west until the wise man’s whispers cease
In search of that elusive source that hums a softly glowing peace
Withered in a land distraught with cold, materialistic things
Thus I feed myself the sadness just to satisfy my pangs
Life is not a friend to me, I long to roam without its brace
Deep into my thoughts I dig, to carry on without a face
Hymns of warm benevolence come croon into my weary ears
Crafted by an unseen choir, perfected over kinder years
To tantalize my drunken senses now that I’ve laid down my steel
Singing me a soothing hurt that seems no longer quite as real
Distant cousins roaming free, long buried in the ocean deep
I wish that I could follow them and rest where sleeping secrets keep
Ibelong to earth and sky that bows to no one in its day
Home to not a single quarrel, command, insult, or evil way
My sympathies will never jade, evasive truth I still defend
My kingdom waits for me out there; it’s worth the risks that I intend
Freedom lies in non-existence; back into the womb I fall
Maybe oneness isn’t really being anything at all….
