Within and Without

Within and Without

A Poem by Brandon Gene Petit

From essential strands of primordial weave
Warm life became of that cold, hard clay
Conceived in the womb of inimical void
Before the first light of terrestrial day

Struggling to quell the human machine
An urge to shed new skin overpowers
Mortal endeavors striving for decades….
Having traveled from life’s beginning hours

The sting of sapience cries for attention
Experience curls a beckoning finger
Delaying the plague of prosaic decay
Hybrid emotions determined to linger

The eloquent drugs of lies, love and lust
Chemicals bred from ineffable plans
Contorted by nature’s loving cruelty
Pristine complected goddess hands

A peaceful flight over planes of existence
The dreams that stir in the minds of the dead
Orphaned monoliths soaking in sunset
Ciphered encryptions remaining unread

Exhaustive throes of euphoric eternity
Impish forms dance in a spherical glass
Oblivion splashed with erratic imagery
The essence that binds all matter and mass

A majestic union of darkness and light
From oil and water to groom and bride
Through the myopia boundaries are breached
The depth and danger along the ride
