Whole

Whole

A Poem by Brandon Gene Petit

Trust has become a useless organ
Lying limp and dead at your side
A martyr slain in the name of knowledge
To rest in the shadow of your pride

A friend may be a premature enemy
Traitors may wield a thousand masks
Suspicion shines a light within
Catching them at their selfish tasks

Killers’ cubs are cute when young
But different breeds divide in time
No more hearts exposed on sleeves
You close the cloak that shows inside

Ignore the pleas that cloud your thoughts
Amend the leak that bleeds your goal
Slash the root that taps your success
Only then can you become whole
