I Know My StuffA Poem by Declan CooneyWritten in my Junior year of High School in my humanities class. Back when dictionaries were my best friend."Release to set free from prior restraint In order to know your God Study up on your saints Relegate to remove or dismiss Irreverence toward God You're becoming blasphemous You blather on And rant about What you "know" to be firm You repulse me you're revolting to be taught Look it up and see Learn; To gain knowledge, understanding, a skill for the mind Your lax Pax Romana For America I will never let you find We'll meet either by chance or by searching Your demonic republic is constantly lurching Underneath my fingernails You infest me With all your rules and regulations You contest me With your meaningless laws You try and arrest me But this protest, you see, Is constantly A drive for me I'm thriving, really! Alive and thrilling Wish it was fulfilling But it isn't Its been moved from its enclosure and its out on the prowl Discharged from my thoracic And yet I dont know how Finish something that completes Or perfects Like a noose in the gallows Surrounding the necks of the non-believers Pagans and Mennonites Muslims and Christians alike Even a free country Has to pay for its rights I'm pissed at the system And the dealer's constant bluff Step to my lyrics My words My rhymes Its rough And when its comes to this rhetoric, Hell, i know my stuff."
