The Same Ol'

The Same Ol'

A Poem by Declan Cooney
"

My Phoenician city cowboy song...

"
Started that morning
Like every other day
Got outta bed quarter to 8
Got in the car and rolled away

(Its the same ol', same ol')

After straining my brain
And wishing for rain
It got to about that time again
So I gathered my books
And called it a day
Got in the car and rolled away

(Its the same ol', same ol')

Well, the weekend finally round
And my love had been outta town
And she was finally comin' back
So I tore out a page
With some things to say
Got in the car and rolled away

(Its the same ol', same ol')

Well my script left her speechless
But she had something to say
That she'd writting on a scrap for today
It read:
"I love you, darlin', and there ain't much to say,
You been actin' stranger day by day,
I met a new boy, and you betcha he's smart
Tall and handsome, well toned and dark
But baby you ain't good enough to get me to stay."
And when I looked up teary eyed,
She just hopped in his truck and rolled away.

(Its the same ol', same ol')

Well I walked to my ride
And slumped on inside
And let those damn tear drops
Roll down my eyes
My brother turns to me, he's the one who drives
Says:
"Its the same ol', same ol'
Life's just a train on a track
And where a train goes
Everyone knows, that that engines comin' back.

You gotta keep on rollin',
You gotta learn to live and forgive,
You gotta let those things go,
Its okay to let pain show,
'Cause its the same ol', same ol'."
