The Lie

I can't believe I am standing were I am

I can't believe it was all but a lie

The lie that I had softly spoken at first

The lie that I let harvest within me

For I knew if I let continue it should become truth

For I had told it to the person that it would mean the most to

It had everything to do with you

But you weren't the one I told it to

I love you never was a lie

When it was said to you

But while we were apart the lie grew because of you

The lie could be heard everyday

In front of that mirror

In the bed

And during every meal

Yet not a soul has heard it

Other than the one that spoke of it

For I fought to make it everything but a lie

But thanks to you I know

That all it will ever be

Is just that

A lie

For there is no doubt

I don't love and never have

Is just simply the lie

I told myself

To rid myself

Of you.

This brings up some memories of an ex, someone I was with for a long time. A majority of our relationship was long distance and the line "But while we were apart the lie grew because of you" hit home for me. Love is an interesting thing and I think that's what you've pointed out here.
