Pieces Of April Brings Tears To My Eyes

Pieces Of April Brings Tears To My Eyes

A Poem by Deborah Leah Krempa

Pieces of April brings tears to my eyes

I miss my boy so much it makes me cry

Especially when it rains, it pours

Crying because he is gone, I cry some more

Each year now as April showers do fall

Sunny days remind me too, of my loss

Oh yes, the roads were dry that night

Freeways were clear & the weather was nice

As April passed, it took with it a piece of my heart

People gathered where the accident happened

Red lights flashing & sirens screaming

Luckily, the fireman were able to quench it out

Bringing the jaws of life into the scene, my son was dead

Robert lay haunched over tiny Xavier in the back seat of the car

I heard he still had part of his seat belt on as he protected the tiny boy

Now in the front seat of the car, sweet Amanda was killed, too

Gentle mommy, with so much love left to give her husband & son

So Adam, the driver was unconscious, broken bones & bruises

The policeman who found them said it was a horrible accident

Erratically driving through the streets of town & over the median

A drunk driver did hit them, a head on collision, as their car

Rested at the stop light when the truck crashed into them

So all they could see were his headlights coming at them

Tears well up in my eyes, when I think about his drunken lies

Of telling the police that someone else was driving

My God, he even took off his shoes & slid into the passenger seat

You know what really kills me, is no one went to jail that night

Evenings in April still make me cry, for I'll always miss my Bobby

Yes, I lost my son & it could have been prevented, you see...

Evidently the drunk driver could have taken a taxicab home

So remember if you drink, don't drive & please forfeit your keys
