You And Me And The Muddy Maumee RiverA Poem by Deborah Leah KrempaYou & me & the muddy Maumee River Oh, how lovely it is during all four seasons of the year Up on the rocks watching the boats pass by
A lake freighter going under the Martin Luther King Bridge now & then Next to me, you would sit holding my hand and tell me your dreams Dreams that one day we'd own a yacht & sail away into the distance
Make believe Everything would be okay
A wish upon the brightest star come evening Now & then a catfish would jump & leave rings in the water Dancing with you under the moonlight was such a delight
The town lit up at night, a lovely American flag waving in the breeze Home is wherever you & I are together Embracing such moments as this
Most often in summer you can hear music from the parties at parks Under the stars you can watch the fireworks on holidays & the 4th of July Drive on down to the east riverbank in winter & see all the Xmas lights Dine at the restaurants & cafes, or just walk along the boardwalk You & I
Maybe once in a while catch a ballgame at Fifth Third Field or take in A concert at the Toledo Sports Arena, both located in the center of town U & me & the muddy Maumee River Makes a lovely time spent together as a pair Ending our enchanted evenings at home Every now & then you & I use to sit on these rocks and share these dreams
Reflections of you & me & the muddy Maumee River I often visit this place, many years have passed, and so have you Very serene the river is flowing today, it reminds me of us Every now & then, a smile comes to my face Remembering you & me & the muddy Maumee River
