It's A Cold Morning In January

It's A Cold Morning In January

A Poem by Deborah Leah Krempa

It's a cold morning in January

There a briskness in the air

Snow blanketing the ground

A frozen world I see

Cold & lonesome like me

Oh, how I hope for an early spring thaw

Leave behind my worries & woes

Damn the drama of this broken heart

Maybe I'll get over you by then

Over you babe, & the heartache you left with me

Regrets, I have a few

Night time is the hardest time to get through

I miss you so much, just chatting with you

Need the warm weather to come soon

Gotta find a way to let you go

It's a cold morning in January

Need a friend

Just someone to talk to now & then

A friend to wipe away these salty tears

Need a shoulder to lean on tonight

Under these gray cloudy skies

A cold morning in January as I

Realize I need to release these old memories of

You & me...

For a moment I found myself repeating inside my head that it's a cold morning in July! And I don't know whether it was the j that each word begins with, or a memory of an old summer flame that still warms my heart in a cold winter day, or is it simply the finger-biting cold that made me not differentiate between the two. A letter simply and not a long-spelled name tips my tongue, a flame flickering on a candle is what I can see that was left from a once shining sun. The burden of these little dying things lies heavy on my heart. The seasons are the loneliest times of the year. This cold has many names in me.
