Just A Piece Of Paper

Just A Piece Of Paper

A Poem by Deborah Leah Krempa

Just a piece of paper

Underlined & signed by the judge

Sheet of paper with certified stamp

The day I got married I was a blushing bride, my groom by my side

As time went on everything seemed to change, he acted so strange

Paul went to work that day, business as usual

I went about my chores, cooking & cleaning the house

Everything seemed normal as we went about our daily routine

Couldn't put my finger on it just then, he had too many friends in & out

Everything was up in the air between us, I didn't make a fuss

Out of the blue, one day he came home too early in the afternoon

For he said he had a debt to pay, I couldn't put my finger on it, just then

Paul was in trouble with some friends, and they were after him to collect

A lot of money he owed for drugs, I was shocked when I found out

Paul was always so quiet, thought he was shy, he was that kind of guy

Everything happens for a reason, but I just don't understand why

Recalling our wedding vows as I held in my hand,  just a piece of paper
