Life On Superior Street

Life On Superior Street

A Poem by Deborah Leah Krempa

Life on Superior Street was sweet

I was on my own & I was free

For it was just my little boy & me

Everything was good, no one controlling me

Often, I visit there in my dreams at night

Nestled snug in my bed, as I turn out the light

Sometimes my son & I would go for long walks, or take a bus to the zoo

Uptown we would go, he was so tiny & cute, curious too

People would pass us on the sideside & say hello, in a friendly way

Every now & then, we'd go to the river watch the boats sail & water flow

Robert was such a handsome little guy, and quite shy

I use to take him to a cafe where he loved to play video games, & pac man

On the jukebox music played, I'd drink my coffee, look at Bobby & say

Remember honey, these are the good old days

Superior Street we lived next to a park, Bobby loved the swings & slides

That was a treat, though he wasn't too keen about the merry-go-round

Reeling & reeling around, too dizzy to keep your feet on the ground

Each Christmas, carolers sang outside our window out in the snow

Every time I think of Superior Street I remember Bobby as a little tike

The way he loved to ride his bike, most of I recall him say, "I love you"
