Drowning In A Sea Of Uncertainty

Drowning In A Sea Of Uncertainty

A Poem by Deborah Leah Krempa

Drowning in a sea of uncertainty

Reflection of me as I look into the mirror

Older but somewhat wiser than I use to be

Wrinkles come with time and age is just a number

Naive little girl she was at age seventeen

Now I see her as an older woman as she is looking back at me

Gentle tears trickle down her face as she slowly wipes them away

In the mirror she tells herself it will be okay

No one is here to hurt her today

A beautiful young woman from yesterday comes shining through

She whispers into the mirror " I remember you "

Eyes that held love and affection, that too often saw pain and strife

All the joys and heartache she endured in life, she remembers still

Of all these things, she sees a reflection of her own life over the years

Fading memories of days gone by

Uncertain of her future as she struggles with her past

Not sure of which direction she wants her life to go

Can she pause for a moment and offer herself a smile

Experience in life has taught her many things

Reflections in the mirror of who she is today

The naive little girl has grown up

As a beautiful young woman emerged

I see her now as her hair is turning gray

No need to worry though, as I tell myself it will be okay

Can never go back and change the past

You only have today, so live it one day at a time, as if it were your last
