There Will Be No Phantom Between You And Me

There Will Be No Phantom Between You And Me

A Poem by Deborah Leah Krempa

There will be no phantom between you & me

He use to say that, Joe did

Every now & then I remember those words

Reminding me that I was in love with you

Even thought of you as my soul mate

Well, ten years or so have passed & Joe and I never did marry

I had you in my heart & held you in my mind

Let every man I met know how I felt about you

Lest their heart be broken in two by falling in love with me

By chance at romance, I met Raul the same night I met you

Evenings we spent dancing and drinking, it was romantic for a time

Night after night you watched as I danced with him

Out on that old wooden dance floor as we spun around

Pretty as you please, you and I flirted

Had me mesmirized with those emerald eyes of yours

A karoake d j known as The Original

Now I look back and I still wonder about you

The way you use to look at me, always staring, never blinking

On the dance floor I could always feel your eyes on me

Maybe you liked me a little, after all we had quite an affair

By the time my estranged husband died

Everything fell apart for me, I became bipolar and fell ill

Then I went my way and you went yours

Whereas you eventually left town

Every now & then I'd search for you at taverns, and even on the internet

Every now & then a friend would say they had seen you around town

Now and then, until one day you just disappeared into thin air

You know, I ran into old bartender Charlie, I spent seven years with him

Only in my dreams could I find you, it was a lonely life for me...

Unsure of my feelings about you and not happy, I let old Charlie go

And then I met Dean, he wined me & dined me, gave me roses & a ring

Now I almost married him, but turned him down, as he frowned

Dancing with you in my dreams, you were quite the phantom

My journey now comes to a close, we found each other a bit too late
