Just A Tavern Away

Just A Tavern Away

A Poem by Deborah Leah Krempa

Just a tavern away from a heartbreak

Until I met him my heartaches were few

Since he left town I feel so down and blue

The neon lights don't shine so bright anymore

As I watch for him to walk through those swinging doors

The tavern is crowded it's karaoke night and I am out on the town

Always searching for him, hope one day he'll return

Very sullen is the moonlight on this starry night

Everybody is dancing and romancing, I'm sitting here all alone

Rivers of tears I've cried in my beers

Now it's closing time, once again, I'm missing my long lost friend

Am so very lonely here tonight, another evening spent thinking of him

Wondering if he even remembers me at all

A love affair we had once upon a time

Young and carefree were we...
