Charlie The Bartender And Me

Charlie The Bartender And Me

A Poem by Deborah Leah Krempa

Charlie the bartender and me

Had met quite a few times

At the nightclubs where we hung out

Really never thought that one day we would be

Living under the same roof him and I as a couple

I knew from the beginning it was quite a mistake

Ended seven years later, as Charlie left with a broken heart

Times spent together drinking booze and having fun with friends

He and I use to slow dance sometimes at the karaoke clubs

Embraced in one another's arms, everyone thought we were so in love

But me...

Always I kept searching for my soul mate

Rebound, I was out on the rebound when Charlie and I met

Turned into a seven-year-itch you couldn't scratch, not the perfect match

Everything was okay for a while, but then it got boring as we got sober

No one thought Charlie & I would break up & finally say it's over

Dearest of friends we've remained, he still visits now and then

Emerging as a free woman, I finally found my true love or he found me

Romantically, we chatted for a time until I had a manic episode

Alas, he stopped talking to me and set me free, too much drama, he said

Now, I am so very lonesome sometimes I break down and I cry

Drowning my tears in a bottle of dry red merlot wine

Me and Charlie, Charlie and me, will always be friends forever

Evermore...
