The Poor Side Of Town

The Poor Side Of Town

A Poem by Deborah Leah Krempa

The poor side of town is where we once met

He was just a d j playing at karaoke club

Emerald eyes that could hypnotize me

Patrons they said that he was arrogant and rude

Only if they really knew him, I thought to myself, they may see what I see

Original Jeff was his name, oh, was he really out there playing games?

Running wild and free...

Seems all the women fancied him, as the men made a joke of him

I sat at a corner table all by myself, like a flower placed upon a shelf

Drank too many beers, shed too many tears, here on the poor side of town

Emerald eyes that could hypnotize me, as I fell madly in love with him

Original Jeff, he sang songs for me that he had never even tried before

Fooled around and kissed me at the stroke of midnight on New Year's Eve

That was fifteen years ago, so many lonely tears ago...

Original Jeff left the poor side of town, built him a mansion in Tennessee

Without me by his side, wish I could have been his bride

Not a thorn in his side...
