She Wore A Calico DressA Poem by Deborah Leah KrempaShe wore a calico dress with high heeled shoes to match Her hair was curled & she wore a little make-up, just a touch Evening out on the town, ready to paint it red
With her estranged husband in jail, no bail, no hesitation to stay out late Over time he used her, abused her, too often accused her as she ran away Ran to the nightclubs, hung out with his friends, his payback was a b***h Ended up drunk on tequila & beer, danced with men under neon lights
A country girl at heart, a housewife & mother, turned to a woman scorned
Cowboy boot/hats, men took notice as she danced night after night A casual affair, one led to another, amused her yet confused her even more Love had her down, shed too many tears, fought too many fights Into the night she strayed & she began to like it that way Cold beer to drown her troubles & a shot of Jose Quervo to wash it down Open arms always willing to hold her, middle of the night at closing time
Day shines bright, eye swollen & red, hungover from the night before Remembering things doesn't come easy as you made a fool of yourself Excuses, you make so many damn excuses... Oh yeah, by the way She wore a calico dress with high-heeled shoes to match She is me... © 2010 Deborah Leah Krempa |
