A Tiny Sparrow FellA Poem by Deborah Leah KrempaA tiny sparrow fell today I felt such sorrow As I walked along this path And then it dawned on me I, like the sparrow have fallen So harshly to the ground The spirit of this bird Has called me to this place Here in my mind As I wonder how life can be So damn unkind My conscience telling me To go back to where his lifeless body lay Pick up his remains Bury them in my own back yard Leaving an offering Of tobacco As I burn cedar, sweet grass and sage These were my thoughts today Do I walk on passed him Leave his body to decay In this concrete jungle Of which I must reside Knowing in my heart I need to let go Of my foolish pride Go back and bring him home Bury him and cover him with a medicine stone Allow his spirit to soar with me So I don't have to walk this earth alone
