Coffeehouse Poetry

Coffeehouse Poetry

A Poem by Deborah Leah Krempa

C offeehouse poetry

O pen mike reading tonight

F riendly poets gather here every chance they get

F or coffee, sandwiches and all types of poetry

E ach contributing their own personal style

E ars listening attentively to the spoken words of their peers

H ours spent scribbling words on napkins, papertowels and parchment

O uthouses, tenement halls, cafes and restaurants, niteclubs and back allies

U ptown, downtown, central city, urban areas, suburbs and graffiti on walls

S pilling forth words with pen and ink, and pencils, painting with words, poetry

E mpowering words, demeaning words, casual words, absurd words, and prose

P oetic expressions is what coffeehouse poetry is all about

O pening doors for new talent and old alike, so many voices to be heard

E ntertaining like food for the soul, poetry is like a song to the heart

T he poet can make you smile and laugh, he can bring you to tears

R estore faith, love and hope, his words can ring music to your ears

Y ou need only listen to hear

I like the poem :) acrostics can often be tricky and jagged, but this seems to flow quite well without being forced. It reminds me of the few readings I've been to.

I notice a bit of ryhming toward the end. I like that quality on certain poems to add flow and interest. Another great topic well written!

Nice work. Always wanted to go to an open mike night at one of those swanky little coffeehouses downtown...a slice of Americana... Thanks for sharing. ;)

this makes me want to go out and do a poetry reading at a coffee house! Been wanting to for a while, but unforntunately where i live haven't been able to really find any. Not very popular around these parts i guess, ohhh well. that's why i miss robert luna and jenny davis's blogtalk radio, i did a reading one time on their show. Great poem, you've really captured the intrigue of a poetry reading.
