With This Ring I Thee Wed

With This Ring I Thee Wed

A Poem by Deborah Leah Krempa

W ords

I  whispered

T he day we wed

H esitated for a moment and then I said I do

T hen he turned and spoke the same vows to me

H alf heartedly as the street preacher pronounced us husband and wife

I  was in the mother's way

S ix month's along to be exact

R ings on our fingers had lost their shine

I  sure wish we had taken our time in getting to know each other better

N ot jumped into marriage with our heads under water, as they say

G uess we were just too naive and thought we were in love

I  had three other children and had recently been divorced

T imes were rough for us as a family

H e made it even harder with his drinking and his drugging

E ventually he took to hitting me, it started with a slap in my face

E yes swollen black and blue, busted lips and broken promises

W e lasted thirteen years until I finally decided it was over for good

E nded in disaster as he beat me worse than the times he did before

D amn near died in his not so loving arms

Yet another tragic poem, although a wonderful acrostic, full of the pain of your life and memory.

I pray for your happiness, you know.. i truly do.

An acrostic to those little golden bands, that at times tend to bind us to great sorrow. Or maybe our actions dull the warm golden glow of the love they are intended to represent. Some would say they show ownership. Why these simpletons believe they have the right to abuse another living being is beyond intelligent comprehension. You luckily escaped that bind. When will we learn, love rocks us in warm gentle arms and says "I will never hurt you." It does not squeeze you so tightly that you can no longer breath and say "you deserved that" or "Why did you force me to do that?" Thank you for sharing an instructional snipet to "unwedded bliss" that everyone should read before that important ceremony takes place. But remember love is 98% of the time blind.
