You

You

A Poem by Deborah Leah Krempa

Cigarette burning in the ashtray

Coffee getting cold

Soft music playing on the radio

Lazy afternoon

Just thinking about you

Been such a long time

Since you walked out my door

Missing you so much, babe

It hurts deep down inside

My heart is breaking

Feel so empty

Without you by my side

Need you back in my life

Honestly I do

Cigarette burning in the ashtray

Coffee getting cold

Soft music playing on the radio

Lazy afternoon

Just thinking about you

Dear debileah,

A wonderful painting of a lazy afternoon when thoughts turn to one's life. And inevitably on those occassions, given enough time and no distractions one turns to thoughts regarding one's life, accomplishments, losses, hopes, dreams. Through your words one can feel the emptiness and the sad regret of losing your love and your longing to fill a hole in your life. But then the poem ends as it began, with a return to reality, the dreaming and wishing now over. Tenderly bittersweet.

A lovely piece. Well done.

Best regards,

Rick

You had me with the lines "Cigarette burning in the ashtray ...Coffee getting cold" brought back old memories. That is how I use to deal with things. Cigarettes and coffee. What was it called the smoking cigarette and coffee blues? "Soft music playing on the radio...just a lazy afternoon." You created a wonderful piece about pondering memories of a love gone away. You put into words what a lot of us have done while thinking about a love that is gone.

Cigarette burning in the ashtray
Coffee getting cold

I really love these lines for they can also symbolize the love burning out and the coldness the heart feels.
A wonderful poem depicting heartache and sorrow.
