Where Is Justice?A Poem by Deborah Leah KrempaMy son's life was taken
Not so long ago
By a drunk driver
The pain is still fresh
As are the memories
Of the funerals
Of two wonderful people
Who are dearly missed
By family and friends
The man who killed them
Is in prison doing time
A mere ten years for his crime
A slap on the wrist for him
A slap in the face for us
Where is justice?
By the time this offender gets out
He will be the same age
As my son would have been
A mere thirty-five years old
With a life still ahead of him
I wonder will he have learned
That drinking and driving don't mix
Or will he get out there on the road
Perhaps it will happen again
Hopefully not I pray
But I wonder anyway
It scares me to think about it
Does it scare you?
It scares the hell out of me
