Precious Angel

Precious Angel

A Poem by Deborah Leah Krempa

Precious angel

I never met you in person

But I saw you in your mother's eyes

I never even realized it

Until I looked into the newspaper archives

I found a picture of you there

You looked so much like her

It's truely amazing

That I could sense

Such a resemblence

A familiar light in your eyes

Shone through the page

I could see her smile

Though it was your photograph

It's like I saw your spirit today

That a careless drunk driver took away

It's like I met you for the very first time

Like I've seen you somewhere before

It was the day I met her

I saw you in your mother's eyes

I felt you in her tears

When I saw her cry over losing you

I saw you in her smile

As she held your son in her arms

The most precious part of you

Precious angel

I like the point/counterpoint in this. Well done. Now, after the booze wears off, reality does set in and I have seen the remorse in a few of the guilty, then seen the brashness of those who don't care.

A work of contrast, dealing with both loss and gain; in the sadness of the passing of the woman before her time evident by her mother holding her own son - the son, the continuation, that promise of a new day - the future that exists.

I have to say that I disagree with the Beatrice in regards to the fact that they have no clue. Everybody is aware of the dangers, they simply do not care. We all have far too much of a clue in regards to this particular crime. There should be no second event. It should be a case of zero tolerance, ranging from the permanent loss of license to the loss of their own life... it really is that simple.

These murderes (for that is what they truly are) are always "sorry" AFTER the event!

They have no clue as to the heartbreak they have caused...they are only "sorry" for the penalty they will have to pay! These drivers should be reviewed every 6 months after their first event, if they have not been convicted and sentenced for hurting someone, and made to work in hospitals where they can see the results of their drinking! Every teenager should be forced...in high school...to do likewise as their community service requirement!

Touching poem Debileah.

one could say the same about your son through your words. A lovely gift to that precious angel. You have a beautiful heart.

Oh my goodness, this is sad... especially the lines 'I saw you in her smile / As she held your son in her arms / The most precious part of you '

You ao often touch my heart, not just with your skill as a poet, but, with your wonderful ability to surround the reader into your quite acute observations.

Thank you for sharing another lovely piece of writing.

Awe, this is wonderful Debileah. So so sad, but the words were beautiful, and what better gift to give to another lost soul is to share a heartfelt poem like this one...very nice Debileah, very sweet.
