Sleep Deprivation

Sleep Deprivation

A Poem by Deborah Leah Krempa

loss of sleep

deprivation

medicine induced dreams

she screams as she doses off

into a hazy maze

toss and turn

arise

drugged

pacing the floor

back and forth

insomnia

fades in fades out

chain smoking

in the middle of the night

thoughts come thoughts go

she watches the clock

as each hour slowly passes

afraid of the dark

she turns on the nightlight

lying on her bed

she gazes at the ceiling

staring into oblivian

her mind reaching

past time and outerspace

far beyond the planets and stars

Man, this so sounds like me on the pain medication they gave me to help me sleep. A great piece and easily related to.
