The Lady In Red

The Lady In Red

A Poem by Deborah Leah Krempa

The lady in red

Has caught his attention

He can't take his eyes off of her

On a cool autumn day

Walking to the bus stop

He sat down beside her

And he said

Hello lovely lady

Haven't we met before

She looked up at him

And she said

Yes I think we have

But I can' t recall where

It's a small town

We live in you know

Well I was watching you

From a distance

You looked so familiar to me

Then he chuckled and he said

Perhaps we had the same dream

Well she laughed and she laughed

He said I like your smile

And you have pretty eyes

I tell you no lies

I'm no stranger

I mean you no danger

Please do not be offended

Would you be so kind

As to have dinner with me

She looked up at him

With a silly grin and she said

I like your smile

And you have pretty eyes

I tell you no lies

I'm no stranger

I mean you no danger

Please do not be offended

If I say yes

I'd like to have dinner with you

Yes it's a small town

We live in you know

Perhaps we had the same dream

The lady in red

She caught his attention

He can't take his eyes off of her

This is a very sweet poem, one that lends clarity to attraction and of course she sweet, and mesmerizing as she synchronizes everything with him, matching wits for wits. His clever lines are out of the typical clich pick up lines but he sounds nervous, as I think he met his match. The flow of this poem is like butter slowly melting in a pan, soothing, creamy, and hot with anticipation. The structure and rhythm merge like a bridge across the ocean and the message swallows you whole.

Its like a lovely story, but you didn't finish it. There was surely more to tell. Of course you probably wanted to leave it to our imagination. But I'm lazy, and I like happy endings - tell on!

I sure wish it had gone that easy for me when I was looking for a girl. Ahhh--romance.

Touching encounter portrayed here. I would that it would be so easy to meet someone so seemingly tender. Thank you.

I am inclined to comment on the picture you chose to accent this piece. I am a bit of an artist and the picture is inspiring in a way that wouldn't be without the poem. I am curious whether you chose the piece first or the picture. It is a charming write. Romantics, such as myself, can never get enough of the subject of the onset of a potential romance. This piece is elegantly written. I like the way it seems portray a message that speaks less of a story being told and more of a tribute to "the stories" that romantics like to tell of love.
