A Solitary Moment

A Solitary Moment

A Poem by Deborah Leah Krempa

A Solitary Moment

A  stranger in the crowd

S tanding near a trash bin holding someone elses left over lunch

O nce a proud professor of philosophy until

L ife took it's toll on me

I  find myself without a home no place to call my own

T ime on my hands

A lone I stand in a crowded street no one notices me

R etired philospher

Y esterday I read a newspaper to catch up on things I've missed

M any a night I spent

O ut on these lonely streets searching for a place to lay my weary head

M aybe find some shelter from the cold

E nduring many a sleepless night with an empty belly

N o one notices me

T he once proud professor of philosophy

This is an incrediby moving piece of writing. The style, lay-out, choice of words hits the reader and makes the heart stop for breath.

The words: ' R etired philospher / Y esterday I read a newspaper to catch up on things I've missed ' brought tears to my eyes, knowing how low such a man - a forever thinking man - has to be to catch up on one day, with one newspaper.

Wonderfully, wonderfully done.

With this economy, there's going to be a lot more people eating out of trash cans.

Well done, not often to do I see people use this style anymore, refreshing.
Also, while catching the attention of reader through format, your words are also quite powerful.
Good write,
