Beyond The Spiral Staircase

B eyond the spiral staircase searching to find serenity

E verything is becoming crystal clear if one listens attentively

Y oung child frightened by sounds in the late evening hours

O f familiar harshness of voices piercing through her ears

N ow and then fading into a deafening silence, then escalating once again

D reading the darkness of this night and praying for daylight

T op of the spiral staircase, seemed the safest place

H iding in the shadows often she prays for the fighting to stop

E verything to just be okay

S cared little girl

P retty as a picture

I  remember her so well

R osey cheeks

A nd

L ong dark hair with the brownest eyes you ever seen

S he grew up in such a dysfunctional family with me

T ears she cried when her daddy died so unexpectly

A ll she had left was her siblings and me

I  know the pain and the sorrow we put her through

R ealizing what a messed up marriage can do

C asualties left behind of haunting memories of days gone by

A ll I want now is to reach out for her and hold her near to me

S top the cycle from repeating itself over again in her adult life

E verything will be all right I pray as I remonise beyond the spiral staircase

The cycle has to stop and we have to stand up and take responsibility for our actions in order to start the healing process!

This is very well done...
Your expressive sentiment is awesome!

Kowel.
The resentment is palpable in this piece, but the thing with the firat letters is just not right for it.... I can't say exactly why :)).

What a catchy acrostic with a deep meaning. We should all stop from time to time to take stock. If we are aware where we came from, we will be more aware of the direction we need to go into. Your right the abuse need not be handed down to our own children. Seek acceptance and healing for what life hands us, and be not embittered against our own children.

What a exceptional write into the dark side of life... child abuse is a terrible thing and you put those feelings into motion quite powerfully.

Touching and familiar to me. How sad it is for a child to have to endure such things. I guess most of us make it through, but not without some scars.

Very touching. It sad that our growing pains sometimes had to hurt our own children.

Nice write.

This was a very good poem. I understood it to be about abuse of some kind.
