Day Dreamer

Day Dreamer

A Poem by Deborah Leah Krempa

Day Dreamer

Reading, writing and arithmetic

Sometimes school makes me feel sick

Sitting at my desk

Wondering if I'll pass the next test

The time goes by so slowly

When you're having fun

Me, I'd rather be out fishin in the sun

I rest my head on my hands

Then fall into a blissful sleep

Daydreaming once again

My desk begins to move

It's growing feet and claws

Oh no, they are dragon's paws

He keeps growing larger

Until I find myself

Holding onto his horns for dear life

Riding atop his giant back

We break free

Right through the school cafeteria

Leaving everyone

In a state of deliria

WHAP!

Teacher hit me with a ruler

As I fall out of my chair so abruptly

What a rude wake up call

I look at the clock on the wall

Slowly ticking away

The bell just rang

School's out!

You have worked your story around this cartoon very well Deb, I found the entire presentation wonderfully colorful and a joy to read...

This reminded me of when I used to drive for a living
When people ask me if it was a long day, I would reply
" no I try to sleep through it " LOL
Nice write I enjoyed it

Days of daydreams spoiled by harsh reality! Well captured and I think the word "not" was left out. Makes more sense that without it.

I remember those days! Someone must be having the same problems that I have with my boy. Wonderfully written. In the 6th line, you may have left out the word "not". Super job!

I think this would read better if you were consistent with either keeping the rhyming going throughout or not. Cute story poem though. I remember those days in school well.

Ok first off love the pic cause I am a huge Calvin and Hobbes fan, the poem itself was so funny, I really loved the humor of this piece, takes me back to my days in school, talk about a blast from the past.

You must have been very deep into that day dream.

This reminds me of one of my sons, who had ADHD. We had a terrible time. He was extremly hyper and I know his teacher's went home each night and pulled their hair out. He has four hyper's of his own today, so he knows what we went through with him. Although of that I'm not sure since he is still going 90 miles an hour himself.
This was well written and soooooooo cute.
