This happens all the time with my kids. I could have pieces of my lamp lying on my livingroom rug and there are three kids in the room. I say "Johnny did you see what happened?" and Johnny says "NO! It wasn't me mom." then I say to Jane "Jane, did you break my lamp?" and she says "Not me mom." with complete confusion on her face (real or not real; you be the judge). Then finally, the last child is confronted and I say to him " Barry, did you do this to my lamp?" and he shrugs his shoulders and says "No mom. I didn't see anything. So, I know it's not me." Then I say to all them with my hands on my hips "Well, If you didn't do it and you didn't do it and you didn't do it, than who did?" and then they stare at me and with blank eyes. Frustrated, I roll my eyes and say "It must have been 'not me' who did it then; right?" and then silence holds the room as I leave. I know this feeling.
This is a cute one Deb. This reminds of the one about baseball: WHO being on first base, WHAT being on second, and so on. I am sure you have heard of it. I can't remember how it goes exactly, but that's what your poem made me think about. I guess we learn as kids quite young to do the "Blame Game." It wasn't me....I didn't do it....NOT ME! HE/SHE did it. :-) Always easier to pass that buck! LOL Great job lady.
LOL. I know that "not me" character is always in trouble at my house! Mine are teenagers now - but it is still the invisible "not me" that does everything bad. Just once I'd like to see him/her so I could swat their little behind lol thanks for the laugh!
I am grandmother,..
My children and my grandchildren I love them all so very much. They are my gifts from my creator, the blessings in this life. I simply adore poetry and the .. more..
