DUI Driver

DUI Driver

A Poem by Deborah Leah Krempa

DUI driver

Bound in shackles

Led away to a prison cell

You killed two people and now you must pay

As the gray steel doors slam behind you

Living with murderers rapists and thieves

Now you must live in fear for your every waking hour

Your freedom has been taken away

Close your eyes and see what you've done

As you tried so hard to hit and run

Blood on the pavement and blood on your hands

Do you hear your victims screams at night in your dreams

DUI driver

Bound in shackles

Led away to a prison cell

I love the darkness and hate that is evident in this poem - and also the comparison of DUI drivers to criminals such as murderers. Often, DUIs aren't thought of as some of the worst criminals - but they DO cause the deaths of millions of people, and deserve to realize what they've done. Great job. =)

I get a great sense of passion and justice from this. As always your work is great. You use the words perfectly to frame your subject.

Your anger comes through fully; It shows how you feel for the person that has caused your pain. I would hope that anyone would not want this on themselves from the views of either the victim's, the left behind loved ones or the person who drank and drove...or their own loved ones; That pain goes all around. Take care and blessings.

This is really powerful. I'm glad you wrote about it. Inspires one not to drink and drive.

This poem takes a leave from your usual whimsical style. However, it is still descriptive and vivid, and I like the flow. Good job. :)
