Red Dirt Roads

Red Dirt Roads

A Poem by Deborah Leah Krempa

it was raining in memphis

on the red dirt roads

when we arrived

at the hotel

elvis fans

getting together

for a week of concert's

with elvis impersonator's

keeping the king's spirit alive

seven days of sunshine

we spent under a tent

visiting graceland

signing our names

on the great wall

by the iron gates

a candlelight vigil

held in honor of him

the king of rock and roll

god rest his precious soul

Elvis still wears the crown. I heard his music from day one, sobbed with the rest of the theater at the end of "Love Me Tender," and remember exactly where I was when I got the news. A very nice tribute, debileah.
