Back in 1956

Back in 1956

A Poem by Deborah Leah Krempa

We had such fun

bathing in the sun

Playing pick-up-sticks

Back in 1956

Smootching at the drive-in

Snuggling at the matinee

Cruizin down the highway

in a hot rod Chevy

Sharing sodas at the ice-cream parlor

Dancing at the hop

Having pillow fights

Staying up late on Saturday nights

watching the late late show

So come on

let's do it again

Bring back those memories

from way back then

Great poem! Makes me feel liked I was there!

Yeah, those were the days! You'd have to move it up to '66 before Sammy Dickens was cruzin' the drive-ins, though. In '56 I was just wanting someone to take me fishing.

This filled me with warm smiles

I love poems that create nostalgia - and this does it really well. Even though I wasn't around back in 1956 I miss those days! The beginning of 'the teenager' and the rock 'n' roll movement. I bet they are great memories to have. NH
