A strong foundationA Poem by Deborah Leah KrempaOnce upon a time I held my roof up high
My windows gleamed in the sunlight dressed with new forest green shutters
I kept my family warm in the winter by the heat of a coal furnace
Fresh white paint adorned my wooden covering My basement did not leak and neither did my plumbing
There was no worry over old wiring for it was brand new I was built on a strong red brick foundation
Carried with me a fine reputation I withstood the test of time
Those days are gone I am weathered with age
My roof leaks of despair Once pretty shutters have fallen
and my windows have lost their glow The paint is peeling and cracked
beneath blue siding which is falling down My wiring is old and in need of repair
The plumbing is falling apart I am a house that carries a broken heart
