True Love

True Love

A Poem by Deborah Leah Krempa

True love is what I felt as a babe when I first looked

into my own mother's, dark Cherokee eyes

True love was when my dad would hold me in his arms

Those arms that protected me and kept me from harm

True love was my first crush on the boy next door

True love I held to my breast when my son took his first breath

True love was the bluest and brightest eyes smiling back at me

True love sprang forth from hugging my three daughter's

and missing all my children their first day of school

True love is forever following the golden rule

True love is the little things we say and do

True love is what i feel for you
