My home town

My home town

A Poem by Deborah Leah Krempa

As i walk through the streets

of my home town

I hear the sounds of sirens

in the distance

That God awful sound

Someone's in trouble

Someone's been hurt

It's rush hour traffic

Someone in a hurry

just ran a red light

now some poor soul lay dying

in a hospital bed tonight

As I walk through the streets

of my home town

Everyone is in a hurry

to get nowhere fast

Someone just robbed

a convenience store

The store owner shot him

now he lay dead on the floor

He ate his last supper

at a kitchen for the poor

As I walk through the streets

of my home town

I hear the shouting, the noise

and the clatter

As I wonder does it all really matter

Today a man pulled a knife on his brother

Who beat up his mother

His brother lay dead in pool of blood

As his mother cried in the rain and the mud

As I walk through the streets

of my home town

Your poems are so creative and flow well. This poem delivers a message that most are not aware of...the reality that exist hidden on some home towns streets...nice write

Wow. This piece is so sad. :( I'm so glad that my hometown is nothing like this. It's beautiful here.
